The other weekend my boyfriend and I set off for Brighton for the weekend for my birthday. And it reminded me of how much I love a good weekend getaway. Whether it be to the beach, a woods or to the city – you can’t beat a staycation. However when it comes to a getaway packing is always a conundrum. As I’m a self confessed over packer. But, I mean, it’s only a weekend. So you learn to only pack the essentials, not enough to move to Switzerland for a month…Saying that. I thought I’d share my weekend getaway essentials, for both him and her so you can enjoy your stay without the hassle.

Weekend Getaway Essentials

Like with any trip, you’ve got to take your essential toiletries and grooming products. Maybe you’ll be going on a little date night, or a night out with friends. Or just to give yourself a freshen up for the day. So for the men, you’ve got your everyday sprays and aftershave, a good cleanser, as we’ve all got to look after our skin especially when travelling. And then a good trimmer and moisturiser, a precision trimmer is always a good choice as it’s compact and creates a good trim and style.

As for my fellow girls. I always take a travel razor, for any quick touch-ups or if you fancy treating yourself to a pamper whilst your away. Then, of course, your skincare faves. I try to keep it to a cleanser, serum, spot treatment and moisturiser. And then I’d say take a deodorant, body spray and/or a perfume. Keep them travel size of course to maximise space.

Of course, we’ve got to take our essential clothing. But, if you’re like me you’ll pack an outfit for literally any situation that may occur. If it’s hot, cold, windy, rainy. But the trick is to take your all-round essentials. Look at the weather forecast and go on that. Also plan your outfits. But take the essential jacket, jumper and a good pair of shoes – maybe something like boots or converse, to suit whatever may happen.

We’re young, we gotta have our technology. So of course you’ve got to take the classics: phone, chargers, earphones. But then I’d also suggest bringing a portable charger, whether it be a larger on or a smaller one. They’re just handy to have popped in your bag, whether you’re out adventuring and your phone needs some juice or for longer car journeys when Google maps is sucking the life from your phone. You can get nice little small ones which will do one or two charges, perfect for smaller days out. But I’d also suggest having a bigger one when there’s more than one devise needing a charge. You can also get solar panel ones which are good for the environment too – it’s a win win.

And of course, I always take my camera. I love capturing memories and just generally snapping away at my camera. Nothing too clunky or fancy, but this is always an essential for me. But, of course, you can use your phone to capture these moments too!

T-E-A B-A-G-S. If you’re a tea addict like myself, take. Teabags. If you’re only going for a weekend then you don’t want to have to go to coffee shops to buy tea constantly. Most of the time hotels will have tea making facilities, but they’ll only give you one or two tea bags. So if you enjoy a brew definitely take some in case. Obviously it doesn’t have to be tea it could be coffee or hot chocolate, whatever tickles your fancy!

I always like to take a good book as well. Whether it’s a kindle, IPad or classic hardback. Like you would if you were going on a big holiday, there’s nothing like a holiday read. And honestly just the thought of having a drink, whether it be tea or something a little stronger, tucked in bed with a read after a day of maybe exploring, walking on the beach or shopping makes me feel so cosy inside. It’s also a nice way to get away from screens, which I think we should all do. Especially on a weekend away.

I’d love to know your essentials for a weekend away!

Em x

I’m so bad at working out what to pack for a weekend. I always end up over packing and never wearing half the outfits I pick. Though tea bags are an essential where ever I go and there’s never any left.

    Such a lovely post.

Usually I’ll Travel alone, so If there is a long train ride I will take my laptop mainly just to write. Or I’ll take a word search or sudoku book to pass the time.

Also I’ll take my glasses as sometimes wearing contacts can be so uncomfortable, and my eyes may need a rest. And I take a spare bag to put laundry in 🙂
