Summer.
Ahhh one of my favourite seasons. Everyone just seems happier when the sun comes out, right? I live on a concoction of iced coffee and char-grilled halloumi from a disposable barbecue and I wouldn’t have it any other way. And, as I loved doing my Spring moodboard, I of course had to do one for the summer as well. And with the past few months teasing us with the heat, all the summer excitement was flowing. So, with that, I give you, my summer moodboard.
WHAT I’M WEARING
I’d love to say I like to dress myself in majestic maxi dresses and straw bags when the sun comes out. But in reality I stick one some shorts, a t-shirt and some vans and I’m out the door. Occasionally I’ll wear a playsuit if I’m feeling fancy. But all in all I keep a very simple style and will always opt for comfort. I can’t be dealing with some underboob or thigh sweat.
Saying that, I want to try find some summer dresses to wear this season. I’m not a dress person and don’t tend to suit them, however I’m determined to find at least one that suits me. I usually would’ve opted for more tight fitting things, which seem to help make me look a little taller than I am. But recently I’ve been loving more floaty, loose fitting looks. Again, because I tend to opt for comfort, especially in the summer. But maybe I just want to pretend like I’m sipping cocktails in Positano, who knows. I love the satin maxi look, but for a more everyday look I love just a simple wrap dress. To be fair, I think the general way to describe my summer style would be floaty. Floaty shorts, tops, head scarfs, give me all the boho airy pieces.
WHAT I’M DOING
I haven’t made too many plans for the summer, living in the Countryside you usually live out the days by the river with barbecues and beers. Maybe the odd walk or bike ride around the middle of nowhere. But one plan I have for this summer is taking a little family holiday to Norfolk for my 21st birthday. My family haven’t been on holiday together in a good 10 years, and before then we would always go to Cromer in Norfolk, and as it was during the summer holidays I’d always spend my birthday there by the sea. So we’re heading back for a week of walks across the beach and pub gardens and I can’t wait.
One thing I’ve decided to do this summer is capture it all on some 35mm film. I was given some film cameras ages ago and haven’t properly used them. But I love the idea of taking pictures throughout my summer and not seeing them until they’re developed, and going back through all the moments. I also love having physical photos to keep, anyone else? And being in the countryside, my summers consist of barbecues, rivers, bike rides and lots of time spent in the middle of nowhere, so is a great opportunity.
SOME SUMMER GOALS
Read more
I’ve slowly been getting into reading more. However it takes a lot for me to get hooked into a book. I’ve been slowly getting into a few books the past few months, however summers the perfect time to get your nose stuck into a couple of stories whilst your perched in the garden. So I want to just spend more time reading and having those some quiet moments without social media to wind down for a little bit.
Reach my savings goal
So I’m currently stuck between saving to but a car and a new camera. They’re equally important to me. And it’s a case of my head is telling me car, the practical choice, but my heart is saying camera, the creative career choice. But we’ll have to see, and before that I need to reach my savings goal so I can buy one or the other.
(Finally) Publish my photography portfolio
Soon.
Learn something new
I really like doing new things and giving myself little projects throughout the year to keep my brain ticking over. I haven’t quite decided what my little passion project will be, but I’d love to learn to surf (living so far away from a beach makes it a little hard), I’d also love to get my sewing stuff back out and live my best year 9 textiles life. Stay tuned to find out if I actually manage to decide and do something.
What are your plans for the summer?
