Right at the beginning of my sustainable fashion journey something I struggled with the most was finding sustainable clothing which also fit my 5”3 frame. And although I’m happy to alter my clothes to fit my body, constantly having to adjust good quality clothing with my less than mediocre sewing skills has become a tad tedious. With that being said, I wanted to share a few petite friendly sustainable brands that I love.
Christy Dawn
Size Range: PXS – PXL
Price Range: £££
If you’re looking for a new summer dress to invest in this year, LA based brand Christy Dawn has a beautiful line of petite dresses for you. They use a mixture of organic cotton and deadstock fabrics as well as natural & organic dyes. They are also working towards more regenerative practices with their farm to closet collection, so certainly a brand to follow as they have some great things coming in the future.
Christy Dawn so also have an ‘extended’ range with sized X-XXXL, however it is not stated if these are also in petite lengths.
Sotela
Size Range: 0 – 10 (unique sizing system)
Price Range: ££ – £££
Sotela is an amazing inclusive driven conscious brand who has created their own unique sizing system to help customers find wardrobe staples that empower both themselves and the planet. Their garments are hand made using sustainable fabrics such as linen, modal and tencel which are more sustainable and will last in your wardrobe a lot longer.
Stature
Size Range: PXXS – PXL
Price Range: ££ – £££
A boutique which thoughtfully curates clothes made for shorter people from independent designers which mostly use natural fabrics and dyes. They measure every garment individually so you know exactly what you’re buying, and if there is a designer they love who doesn’t carry the right sizes, they aim to create limited collections for their boutique.
Nudie Jeans
Size Range: 24″ – 38″ Waist
Price Range: ££
If you’ve got short legs, I’m sure you’ve experienced the stress of trying to find jeans that fit you correctly. Introducing: Nudie Jeans. An amazing conscious GOTS Certified Swedish denim brand which uses organic cotton, recycled denim and limited chemical treatments or washes. They have an amazing range of styles so there is bound to be something for everyone. Eileen Fisher make timeless, well-made clothing and have sustainability and ethics at the heart of everything they do. They use responsible fibres such as organic cotton, organic linen and regenerative wool as well as using conscious dying practices. Their garments are incredibly high quality so will last you for years, they also have a lot of great information on their website about how best to look after your garment to make it last even longer.
Girlfriend Collective
Size Range: XXS – 6XL
Price Range: ££
I’m sure you’ve already heard of Girlfriend Collective, but if not they are an amazing conscious and size inclusive activewear brand that use recycled materials to make their garments. They have a range of designs to suit your chosen activity or support, and for us shorties they also have a shorter length option. They also have an amazing recycling scheme so when you’re done with your leggings, you can send them off to be broken down and made into a new garment.
Off Beat Petite
Size Range: ~ UK 8 – 16
Price Range: £ – ££
For the second hand/vintage shopper, Off Beat Petite are an online boutique selling vintage clothing tailored for people with a petite frame. However, because everything is sourced second hand that does mean they don’t have the largest size range but definitely one to keep an eye on if you love a good vintage find!
Depop/Vinted
Speaking of second hand, I had to include second hand options such as Depop & Vinted. If there’s a fast fashion brand who do a great petite range, you might be able to find it second hand, so I would definitely recommend you check these sites first. This of course requires a bit more work to find what you’re looking for, however will most likely be more affordable in the end. Also, if you’re unsure about anything you can contact the seller to advise on the measurements/fit of the item!
Honestly, I struggled to find many more sustainable brand for petite people, especially ones that have good size inclusivity. So I will make sure to keep this list updated as I find new brands. Also, please feel free to contact me with any petite friendly brands I may have missed out!
