I realise the use of ‘new season edit’ is a bit rich on my half as it’s currently mid October. This was meant to be done last month. But there’s been a few technical difficulties. Any-hoo, as we all know I love Autumn so couldn’t not convey my love for Autumn style in a nicely wrapped blog post.
The offset of autumn has commenced and it brings an abundance of chocolate brown and deep green leaves falling to your feet, pumpkin spice everything and those unprepared ‘shit I didn’t bring an umbrella’ moments. And just like that, as the new season collections storm in or floaty skirts are blanketed with chunky knits. Sandals give way to ankle boots. And despite autumn collections never really changing from season to season – that urge to keep your debit card well exercised by bulk buying a whole new wardrobe sets in.
With all that being said, before we all go base over apex into the nearest H&M. I urge you hold back and head to Oxfam, or Depop, or anywhere offering some solid second hand options. If you perused my autumn moodboard, you’ll know I’ve pledged to shop completely second hand this season. And I’m not saying you have to do the same. But before you get ahead of yourself, reach back into your wardrobe and dust off those jumpers prepped and ready for service. And just double check those second hand sites – you can find some absolute gems on second hand site.
So, here’s the deal. I wanted to pull together a little Autumn style wishlist. A classic through-and-through fashion post. But with the above being said, it seems somewhat dishonest to throw a bunch of new in pieces at you. So instead, I thought I’d pull together an autumn edit and something I’m calling my ‘thrift list’. The sort of things I’ll be wearing this season, the styles, the colour palettes (which we already know will be neutrals with a hint of neutrals), and certain pieces I set out to find on my second hand ventures. I’ll pop a few pieces at the end of this post, pieces I believe will withstand in your wardrobe for Autumns to come. So there’ll be something here for everyone.
I never branch out too much with Autumn style, or style at all, for that reason. I stick with my old faithful comfy, casual with a little business-woman style. Of course knitwear is a fundamental component, and I’ve already stocked up on some chunky roll necks (including a H&M one, originally £20 and I found on Depop for £5. I’ll take that bargain queen crown now.) and some lighter layering pieces. However still on the hunt for something in the pistachio green proximity.
I’ve also been trying to incorporate satin pieces into this season. I’m a little late to the Satin bandwagon, but is perfect for the Autumn Winter months. A satin blouse for some light layers at work or a satin skirt matched with a chunky knit. And of course, coats. I was never a coat person, I had my winter coat and a lighter coat and that was that. But times have changed and another great bargain on a camel coat, grey coat and aviator jacket has meant some major rearranging in my wardrobe. I’m a super cold person, you’ll find me with goosebumps in June. So in A/W you’ve got to make it fashun. Plus it’s a capsule wardrobe, long standing purchase.
And speaking of some long standing purchases. Here are a few pieces to give inspiration and which will withstand in your wardrobe for years to come (contains affiliate links)…
